Growth in Latin America as Ria opens 9th Store in Chile

On October 3, Ria opened its ninth retail store in Chile. This recent addition is a testament to Ria’s growth in Latin America, since opening its first store just three years ago.

The newest store is located in the city of Quilicura, an area which forms part of Santiago’s metropolitan region.

Ana Dresdner, Country Manager for Chile, said that staff welcomed a steady flow of customers through the doors on the first day, commenting: “We’re pleased to be opening our ninth retail store in Chile and our fifteenth company-owned Ria location in Latin America.

“The continued expansion of our retail network reinforces the fact that we are continuing to get it right for our customers. Our goal is to keep providing the same great service in Quilicura that they have come to expect from all our locations, with plans to continue spreading the orange wave across Chile,” she concluded.

Ria celebrated the opening of its ninth store in Chile this month. The new store is located in Quilicura, which forms part of Santiago’s metropolitan region.

Chile is considered one of the most prosperous countries in Latin America, well-known for its agriculture and copper mining industry. Many migrants that come to work in the country require a secure, fast and reliable means of sending remittances back home.

As Marcelo Castillo, Managing Director in South America, explains, “Ria became well-known among migrants with its first flagship store in downtown Santiago, Chile. Since then, we have continued to grow our network and deliver a service that’s fast, secure, and affordable each time.

“Our rapid store expansion, as well as the continuing Walmart Chile partnership, make our services more accessible to new customers and more convenient for existing ones,” he affirmed.

Ria’s Road to Chile

After establishing regional offices in Santiago in 2012, Ria opened the doors to its first Retail Store in Chile and Latin America in August 2014. In the two years following, the company began working with Walmart Chile through select Lider-branded supermarkets, adding Ria booths inside the stores.

In January 2016, Ria celebrated the opening of its fourth store and its second in the port city of Antofagasta. Several months later, in June, the fifth retail store was opened in Calama in northern Chile (also in the region of Antofagasta), to meet the growing demand of customers looking for a reliable and affordable service.

Four more stores have since opened in Chile, as well as additional Ria booths inside Walmart Chile locations, bringing Ria’s owned location count to 15.

Market Intelligence Manager, Barbara Lopez, who is based at Ria’s regional offices in Santiago, said the growth has been driven by simply meeting the needs of the customers: “We have a strong demand for money transfer [in Antofagasta] and we want to be where our clients need us most,” she told Chilean newspaper, La Estrella del Loa following the opening of the Calama store.

“We recognize the importance that these services provide to our customers, who are sending the fruit of their labour to help their families in their countries of origin. They want to know that a service is reliable,” she concluded.
