Ria’s CEO & President, Juan Bianchi, said, Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by the earthquake in Ecuador. We know that many families and children are facing challenging times right now and we want to facilitate efforts to help them as soon as possible.

“As part of the emergency appeal, Ria is supporting UNICEF to collect donations and has activated its Store and Agent network. We hope that these actions will go some way in supporting those that have been affected by this earthquake. 100% of the proceeds will go to UNICEF.”

Jorge Vallés, Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Ecuador told the Ria Blog, “There are 146 schools damaged or destroyed. In the next hours, a rapid evaluation will take place for UNICEF to identify along with the Government where temporary educational and protective spaces will be established.

Meanwhile, we have already sent 20,000 water purification tablets, 4,500 mosquito nets, and plastic sheets so families can protect themselves and their children. We are very concerned about the health, water and sanitation conditions, as in the areas most affected by the earthquake there is a higher prevalence of Zika, dengue, malaria and Chikungunya.”
